PROJECTS

The Art for Soldiers Foundation's initial focus was, and still is, to collect Art and letters communicating America's support for active soldiers and veterans. AFS sponsors holiday parties where people create Art and letters for the soldiers for those Holidays, such as the Christmas party pictured below. It is an amazing thing to experience the enthusiasm with which people approach a piece of paper with a pen or crayon, the power this paper has to warm a Soldiers heart is truly astonishing. We deliver all the Art and Letters as we did initially, but now it is also all downloadable electronically from our website.

AFS is one of the charities that assists IAVA by linking them to our NCF/CompTIA (www.comptia.org) partnership, offering returning Veterans free online IT training and certification as well as computers, if needed. In the Founder's opinion, IAVA is by far the most outstanding, innovative and progressive non-profit Veteran's Organization focusing on assisting the ever-growing group of our Young Veterans and their families as they are discharged from the Iraq and Afghanistan wars to be faced with the void of "re-integration." Watch the posted videos and photos by active duty soldiers from the field IAVA offers for viewing by clicking on the designated link on their banner. Talk about some real insight...

DELIVERY OF LAPTOPS TO DISABLED VETERANS

The National Cristina Foundation (www.cristina.org) has donated hundreds of laptops for use by Disabled Veterans. AFS is raising funds for the delivery of these laptops, along with children's art (which is also installed as screensavers on the laptops), to the Veterans at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio that need them.

THE TEXAS MILITARY FAMILY FOUNDATION
(aka "MOM'S PLACE")

http://www.tmff.us

The Texas Military Family Foundation is a non-profit 501 C(3) organization that serves the United States Military. Its executive director is Julie Curtis-Win (aka Mom). In June of 2007, J. Wayne Duckworth (Sir Duck), the President of the Art For Soldiers Foundation, presented Mom's place with a $10,000 check to expand the small mobile unit she operates out of by adding an Art/Media room extension. AFS is most appreciative of Dr. Bruce McMahan's generosity in donating the funds to AFS at the Founder's request. Bruce McMahan.

Christmas Party at the Uplands HOLIDAY PARTY SPONSORSHIP

Another project is the sponsoring of holiday parties so that people can create Art and letters for the soldiers that cover those Holidays.

THE AMERICAN LEGION

AFS has a close partnership with the American Legion. Our NCF/Comp-tia partnership supplies many posts and Legion members with computers and free online education opportunities. Below are some photos from the American Legion Conventions we jointly attend. AFS also assists the Legion in supplying wounded soldiers at military and VA hospitals with care packages containing our letters and Art. The children of Founder and C.O.O Heather McMahan purchased and donated a pickup truck which the American Legion uses to deliver the care packages and for participation in parades, as in this picture taken on July 4, 2007.

VOLUNTEERS AND AFS

Art For Soldiers cannot accomplish its goals without support from volunteers. We need volunteers to help us organize and run our events and to get art out to the soldiers that need it. Please contact heather.mcmahan@artforsoldiers.org if you are interested in volunteering.
