PROJECTS
The principle task of Art for Soldiers is to encourage civilians, especially children, to create art to communicate their support for active soldiers and veterans. AFS sponsors holiday parties where people create Art and letters for the soldiers for those Holidays, such as the Christmas party pictured below.
View the projects below:
DELIVERY OF LAPTOPS TO DISABLED VETERANS
The National Cristina Foundation (www.cristina.org) has donated hundreds of laptops for use by Disabled Veterans. AFS is raising funds for the delivery of these laptops, along with children's art (which is also installed as screensavers on the laptops), to the Veterans at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio that need them.
SUPPORT FOR THE FISHER HOUSES

www.fisherhouse.org
The Fisher Houses support America's militaty in their time of need by providing housing for friends and family of disabled veterans while they recieve hospital and medicate. AFS especially supports The "Center For the Intrepid," a state of the art rehabilitation center serving military personnel who have been catastrophically disabled, located within the Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas.
Art for Soldiers provides Art from Children showing their appreciation and support for American Soldiers. Here, Heather McMahan, C.O.O. of AFS, gives Isaac, the Fisher House representative from Fort Hood, some children's art for display in the Fisher Houses.
THE TEXAS MILITARY FAMILY FOUNDATION (aka "MOM'S PLACE")
http://www.tmff.us
The Texas Military Family Foundation is a non-profit 501 C(3) organization that serves the United States Military. Its executive director is Julie Curtis-Win (aka Mom). In June of 2007, J. Wayne
Duckworth (Sir Duck), the President of the Art For Soldiers Foundation, presented Mom's place with a $10,000 check. The funds were given to AFS by Bruce McMahan.
Julie Curtis-Win is also president of AFS at Fort Hood, where she is collaborating with Heather McMahan to create an Art studio complete with supplies for the use of soldiers visiting Mom's Place. Mom's Place also serves as an art gallery for AFS-sponsored art by children who want to show their support for the American military. The founder would like to add that this project was aborted by Ms. Curtis-Win. To read about this and other misappropriation of funds; the refusal to appreciate or recognize computer donations and more, see founders commentary in the blog.
HOLIDAY PARTY SPONSORSHIP
Another project is the sponsoring of holiday parties so that people can create Art and letters for the soldiers that cover those Holidays.
THE AMERICAN LEGION
AFS cooperates with the American Legion to supply wounded soldiers at VA hospitals with care packages and children's art. AFS donated a pickup truck which the American Legion uses to deliver the care packages and for participation in parades, as in this picture taken on July 4, 2007.
NATIONAL VIETNAM VETERANS ART MUSEUM - EXHIBIT
The Art for Soldiers Foundation gave the National Vietnam Veterans Art Museum $5,000 to support the preservation, conservation and exhibition of images from early Vietnam combat operations entitled THE MARINES: FIRST TO FIGHT, THE EARLY YEARS. The exhibit ran from Memorial Day to November of 2005 and after that went on tour.

VOLUNTEERS AND AFS
Art For Soldiers cannot accomplish its goals without support from volunteers. We need volunteers to help us organize and run our events and to get art out to the soldiers that need it. Please contact heather.mcmahan@artforsoldiers.org if you are interested in volunteering.
